So you should know about my gag webcomic Wayward Hours in Panels. Up until the start of this week I had been posting 3 comics per week. I thought it was a good way to ease myself into a faster schedule.

Well I had the idea for a big multi-parter for the comic about 25 comics in, but it was 15 parts. I didn’t want to drag the story out for a month or two, so I decided to force myself to post a comic a day. This is the end of that 1st week of posting one comic every day.

Sure my comics ended up coming out late in the day, but they came out. Anyone who looked at it regularly would have found a new one every day. I’m pretty pleased with myself. Haha.

2 more weeks of this to go. Barring any emergencies, I’m gonna do it. After I’ll probably go back to the 3 comics per week format.

Well the weekend is here so no more comics. A good chance to think up some more, work on VL, watch the new ThunderCats and play the new Dragon Age 2 DLC. Whoot!

I like this one. The way I have the story planned I don’t use her much, but I’m thinking of changing that as I go along, since she’s got such an interesting look.

 This one is supposed to be related to the first character sketch I posted. I hope they do seem somewhat similar. Sisters. I’ve changed her hair in the final as well and re-positioned her beauty mark. Beauty marks rawk!
I like the way she turned out, but she doesn’t look so good in these sketches. Ah well.

 Once again I changed this character’s hairstyle to something a little less ridiculous. I feel it looks a lot better. Her general look is the same and I’m pretty happy with it. She’s got weird eyebrows, tho.

This guy is still a work-in-progress. Kinda. I tried to model him after Security Chief Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. lol

So I’ve been working on a comic for a couple of months now. Planning out the story took a long time and now I’m near the end of my character designs. I didn’t realise there were so many characters in the comic, and there really aren’t – but making a unique design for every one of them is a bit taxing. I know it’ll be worth it when I finally get started with the comic, but right now it can get tedious.

I’m surprised with how much crap I’ve done, though. 2 notebooks full of plot and characters, I’ve got some templates down and I’m using WHiP to practise and get into the habit of drawing comics and uploading them…

I really hope I don’t crap out on this. But I’ve gone a lot farther than I have in any of my other attempts, and I have been posting other webcomics… so maybe I have a shot.

For tonight… I’m taking a break.

The Breaker – A Korean Manga (Manhwa) about martial arts. Totally off the hook with awesome characters and fantastic eye-bleedingly good artwork. No seriously. The artwork is so good you’ll think someone is shitting with you.

Dogs: Bullets and Carnage – A Manga with a cool artistic style, but the story is kinda dumb in an action movie kinda way.

Billy Bat: By the great Urasawa. Conspiracy theories around the world unite and are joined by a single unifying force: a crazy cartoon bat! No seriously, you have to read this. Great artwork and a mindblowing story that’ll grab you by the ovaries/balls.

This is one of my favourite trailers from E3 so far, if not THE favourite. It’s just so full of awesome. HURRICANE DDT INTO THE GLASS TABLE! I mean COME ON!!!!

I’m one of the many people who thought Saints Row 2 was a more fun game than Grand Theft Auto IV. No, it didn’t look as good, nor did it sound as good, but it played better, was more fun and it knew it was more fun. If Saint’s Row 3 follows in that tradition, this will be a 1st day pick-up for me.

Now the trailer is really well done. Great direction, all Zach-Snyder like. It’s got a huge amount of style from the games, and it’s full of little details that are game-specific. I’m not a huuuuuge fan of the artstyle but I can forgive it for the overall trailer having so much style and swing. And this is the first time I’ve heard Kanye West’s “Power” used effectively in a trailer.

This blog is very specific. I’ve been writing stupid crappy webcomics with no purpose but to see where these goes, and I’ve decided that instead of spreading them all over the place (at places like Last Pixel Standing and Deviant Art), I’m gonna put them all here.

Thank God for Racebending.com. It used to be that this kind of shit was ignored. After-all, the mighty movie studios were gods, and anyone that complained about what they were doing weren’t even worth being scraped off the bottom of their shoes.

Seriously, though…. WTF? They’re telling me that for a movie made in Japan, about Japanese, with Japanese sensibilities, they can’t even give an Asian actor a READ for ONE of the main roles?

No no no, there are over 300 MILLION PEOPLE in America. I’m pretty sure SOME of them are Asian Actors. I’m sure of those Asian actors, SOME of them are good looking, and some of them can act, and carry a movie.

But of all those people, NONE of them get even a chance to try out for one of the lead roles?

Of Akira?!?! Of Akira.

This isn’t a race thing, it’s a fairness thing. Hollywood is not fair. It’s not about art or creativity. It’s about a calculation of what’s popular now, what was popular then, what might be popular tomorrow, and slotting that into the equation to spit out a movie, come hell or high water.

And for any of you that want to defend Hollywood and it’s CONSTANT racebending, answer me this: why is it whenever a traditionally white role or character is given to a minority actor (Gwen from Merlin, Heimdall from Thor, Donny Glover from Spider-Man, etc) you will freak the fuck out, saying that it’s changing the idea or the culture of the original story.

But when it’s a minority role given to a white actor, you’ll claim that it’s just the producer wanting to get the best actor for the role.

To recap:

White role given to minority – OUTRAGE! It doesn’t fit the role!

Minority role given to Caucasian – PRACTICAL! Best actor for the job!

Fuck. You.

And fuck Hollywood. Seriously. Up. The. Ass.

I, a former Catholic from a very Christian family, just came out to my mother as an Agnostic (I would classify myself as a soft or weak agnostic, to be specific). Scoff if you must, but my heart is still racing. I honestly think I would have gotten a warmer reception if I had said I was homosexual.

Wonder how long it’ll be until I’m asked to move out now? My fault for not having my own place, I guess.

At least I’ve gotten that off my chest. Fun for everybody. Now for the long awkward awkwardness.

So anyone who’s been reading this blog (hi the 3 of you! Hey! *waves hands*) know that I’ve been struggling lately with a task/problem; ie finding an idea for a story so I can FINALLY write and draw a webcomic.

Well, after working on the problem since the very day the Winter session of school ended, I’ve finally come up with an idea…

That idea is to stop the search alltogether. So I’m announcing right here and right now that today, after nearly 3 months of fruitless searching, I’m giving up the search, and the dream of drawing a webcomic. At least for now.

See, I did a lot of soul-searching last night, and I discovered something: I don’t have much of an imagination anymore. Hell, I’m not sure if I ever did. There’s something missing inside, and because of that missing something, I can’t come up with anything.

I’ve tried. I’ve filled notebooks with dozens and dozens of story premises, musings, roughs, Names, storyboards, everything over the Summer. But while they’re all interesting, none of these ideas has either inspired me or ignited some passion in me to tackle it, and put it to artwork. None of them.

How can that be? Either all of these oh, about 40 or so seperate ideas either don’t inspire me, or I can’t be inspired. Well I’m not sure what the answer is yet. I’m not willing to say I’m a passionless or uninspired person at this point of my life…. but it would explain a lot. How does that bode for me, who is an artist and creator at heart? Not too well…

So I’ll have to find the answer somehow, but I’ll tell you what I’m NOT gonna do: I’m not gonna wrack my brain and stay up late at night on my bed trying to come up with the idea that’ll fill me with inspiration and passion. I’m not gonna try to look for THE idea anymore. I give up.

Does this mean I give up the dream of drawing a webcomic? Well… for now….. yes. As much as I hate to say it. Sometimes you gotta know when to throw in the towel.

But the good news is that the Fall session of school will be starting in a couple of weeks. I’ll be drawing a lot more then, for assignments and such, so expect this blog to be heavy with art and feeling then. :D

As for the smiley face… well I had been putting a lot of pressure on myself these past couple of months, and even though you may think it’s lazy or defeatest, it’s good to have that pressure lifted. Yeah it means giving up on a dream…. but what are dreams, really? If you’re not capable of doing something, then you’re not capable. That’s my lesson for the day, kiddies.
